Safety Management Specialist Certificate

Certificate Classes

The Safety Management Specialist Certificate Program (the Program) was founded on the principle that everyone who works in the field of safety & health, full-time or part-time, is continually in need of keeping up-to-date on the technical and management aspects of their profession. The Program provides you, whether you are just starting out or have been in the profession for some time, a variety of courses, which may be taken individually or as part of certificated programs.

Courses within the Program do not compete with government-required technical courses. Rather, the purpose of the Program is to provide you with practical technical and management programs that are filled with techniques and skills that will enhance your education and on-the-job skills.

Most importantly, the Program provides you with an opportunity to attend certificated courses that will assist you in your careers and are an excellent addition to your professional resumes. The Program's courses inherently describe the level of professional training that a practitioner has attained. These courses provide you and your organization with enhanced methods and ideas to improve the organization’s safety efforts and results.

Upon completion of the courses that comprise this certificate, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the principles that are part of the broad fields of safety, risk control, and industrial hygiene.

  2. Implement safety & health programs that fit the style of management of your respective organizations.

  3. Communicate safety information with a degree of confidence to groups and in one-on-one conversations.

Students receive a certificate of completion for each individual course that includes 0.6 continuing education units (CEUs) or a total of 7.2 CEUs for the entire program.  Participants also receive a certificate of completion for each three-day set of classes. All students who complete the entire Safety Management Specialist Certificate receive a special certificate in class and are then sent an attractive handsome plaque.

All courses are highly interactive and seek to provide the student with knowledge from the instructors and from the participants themselves.  Networking among the students is encouraged for ongoing communication and problem solving.

The Safety Specialist Certificate Program had been conducted since the mid-1990s with hundreds of graduates from both the private and public sectors.  This Program was renamed and improved upon as of January 1, 2008 in preparation for the creation of a new certification program, the Certified Safety Management Specialist (CSMS). This certification is designed to enhance student credentials based upon the knowledge gained from this revised Program.

Classes may be taken individually or as a part of the certificate series.
